The Yarra Valley

The Yarra Valley was Victoria’s first wine growing district, with a proud history going back nearly two hundred years. Vines were first planted in 1838 and viticulture increased rapidly through the 1860’s and 70’s. With the rise of fortified wines, Yarra Valley saw wine production cease in 1921. But replanting began again in earnest in the late 1960’s and now the area under vine has surpassed the high point of the 19th century.

• Acacia Ridge

Acacia Ridge offers a wide range of delicious wines including Moscato, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Shiraz.

• Badger’s Brook Estate

This family run vineyard specialises in Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz. The terroir in this part of the Yarra Valley are pretty lean, and require grape growers to crop low and seek maximum flavours from low yielding vines.

In 1994 the current owners took a great interest in some of the more alternative varieties including Roussanne, Marsanne, Viognier and Tempranillo.

• Coldstream Hills

Perched on the side of a valley, Coldstream Hills encourage visitors to enjoy a glass of wine on their beautiful deck whilst admiring the stunning views of the vineyards. A selection of cured meats, cheeses and olives are available to nibble on whilst enjoying the vintages.

Domaine Chandon’s tradition hails from the grand champagne house Moet & Chandon but the expertise is firmly planted in cool-climate Yarra Valley wine country. The Giant Steps Single Vineyard range is produced from the most site-expressive fruit off the best vineyards in great years. Production of these wines is very limited, and each single-vineyard wine, tells a story about the vineyard, vintage and variety.
