Small Group Tours In Cairns – Kuranda, A Village In The Rainforest

Head out from Cairns on the Kennedy Highway for a trip to the village in the rainforest. Kuranda was originally settled by artisans and today boasts 2 markets full of locally produced artefacts, souvenirs, wood carvings and other artistic works. It’s worth the trip just for this alone.

However, there are also many nature walks of various lengths and degrees of difficulty through the surrounding rainforest. Or you can visit the many wildlife sanctuaries and parks within Kuranda itself.

Small Group Tours In Cairns – The Ancient Daintree Rainforest

The Daintree Rainforest is a World Heritage Listed area of remnant tropical rainforest. It’s around 165 million years old, which makes it the oldest living rainforest in the world. The rainforest is also home to many species of endangered tropical rainforest plants and wildlife.

There are a number of parks located throughout the heritage-listed area including the Daintree National Park, Barron Gorge National Park, Wooroonooran National Park and Cape Tribulation. All of these are open to tourists and offer activities like tree top walks and educational tours through the rainforest.

Small Group Tours In Cairns – Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park

This area is rich in indigenous culture and nowhere do visitors get a chance to see this better than at the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park. Located just near the start of the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway to Kuranda, a visit to the park combined with a trip to Kuranda on the Skyrail makes for an excellent group outing.

There are a number of demonstrations run daily as well as cultural exhibits and a restaurant. Demonstrations include bush tucker food, boomerang throwing and didgeridoo displays as well as Aboriginal and Torres Straight Island dance shows.

You should also allow enough time to have a wander around the park and check out everything else there is to see here.

Small Group Tours In Cairns – The Atherton Tablelands

Visit the Atherton Tablelands. This plateau of basalt with its plentiful rainfall and sunshine is a very fertile region and produces a lot of Queensland’s fresh produce. There are over 2,000 farms and market gardens here for instance.

But fresh food is not all the Atherton has to offer visitors. The scenery here is stunning and there are plenty of bushwalking trails that make for some great hiking. You can also swim (but watch out for crocs), canoe and go mountain biking.

As you can see, there are plenty of opportunities to come up with ideas for great small group tours in Cairns. We didn’t mention Cape Tribulation or the Captain Cook Highway that gets you there but you should definitely include them in an itinerary as well. It’s a great eco destination and is unique in that it lies within two World Heritage areas – The Daintree National Park and the Great Barrier Reef.

If we’ve whetted your appetite for tropical Australian touring, we’d like to suggest that hiring a coach is by far the most convenient way to travel around this area. The roads here can be dangerous so an experienced driver provides peace of mind that you’re going to get there and back safely.
