Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on the Gold Coast

The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary was built as a bird sanctuary by Alex Griffiths in 1947. It then became world famous for feeding a huge flock of free–flying wild lorikeets which come twice a day to feast off the special mixture of food given by the visitors. In the early 1970s, the sanctuary evolved into a wildlife sanctuary to offer visitors a variety of experiences.

By September 2009, the state government recognised the sanctuary to be on the Queensland Heritage Register. Today, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is considered to have the largest collection of Australian native species in the world. From iconic Aussie native wildlife to reptiles, marsupials and birds. Also, the sanctuary has a miniature railway that has operated since 1964.

If you’re heading out as a group to visit the sanctuary, why don’t you book a reliable coach charter service on the Gold Coast? Your group will fully enjoy the experience without rushing just to catch up with the public transportation schedules.
