Group Camping Tours Tasmania – Tasman National Park campsites
Just a couple of hours drive from Hobart, near Port Arthur, is the Tasman National Park with 2 camping sites at Mill Creek and Banksia at Fortescue Bay. Both sites provide basic amenities for tents, campervans, caravans and RV’s but there is no power.
Use either of these camping grounds as a base for exploring the surrounding areas. There are walking tracks that take you to some amazing coastline scenery. Head up the east coast of Tasmania where several excellent camping experiences can be had. If you go as far as the Douglas-Apsley National Park, you can camp at the Douglas Camping ground close to the Apsley Waterhole. There are a number of quaint cottages available for hire too so you don’t have to rough it if you don’t want to.
This peaceful spot is within walking distance of viewing platforms from which you can gaze out over vast acres of heathland and amazing mountain gorges. Or visit isolated waterfalls and take a dip in the freshwater pools scattered around the area. There is also fishing, canoeing and a range of other water sports available as well.
Group Camping Tours Tasmania – Friendly Beaches, Freycinet National Park
Freycinet National Park is located on the peninsula of the same name and is a good place to head to either before or after camping in the Douglas-Apsley National Park. There are several campsites within the park but the best one for bush camping is Friendly Beaches. It’s also free.
The main attraction at Freycinet is the magnificent panorama on offer at Wineglass Bay. Once you’ve seen the bay, there are further attractions to keep you here for a few more days. Coastal hiking, wineries and of course the must do climb up Mt Amos for the 360 degree views from the top.
Be aware though that wherever you choose to camp here it’s done by ballot during school holidays due to popularity vs limited camping spaces available.

The Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park is one of the world’s iconic wilderness areas and for good reason. It’s a landscape carved out by ancient glaciers, covered in dense untouched alpine forests with breathtaking waterfalls, scenery and other natural wonders.
There are numerous hiking trails throughout the region. One of them is the famous, or infamous, Overland Track that runs from Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair. It’s 65 kilometres of amazing scenery through virtually untouched and ancient landscapes.
For camping, there are Parks And Wildlife run sites within the park or you can opt for the privately owned Cradle Mountain Holiday and Caravan Park just before the Cradle Mountain park entrance. The park offers cabins, cottages, caravan, and tent sites.

The Southwest National Park is Tasmania’s largest, and remotest, national park. It’s right down in the southwestern area of the state and much of it remains largely untouched. It is extremely popular with hikers as there are some magnificent treks to be found here.
There are a number of camping sites, most of which can be reached by 2WD vehicles. You can choose between the sites along the Gordon River and Scotts Peak Roads, which offer sites ranging from basic to just a place to pitch a tent. There are more camping sites around Cockle Creek at Recherche Bay State Recreation Area and Rocky Bay, also very basic.
